STEPS

1 - Suggest a Country
This year all UN Member Nations are up for grabs on a first come first serve basis. Do some light research and then suggest your top 10 country preferences to your advisor.
2 - Pick a Committee
Explore this year’s committees and topics with the button below. Take note that we have three total committees this year, two standard committees (SOCHUM and WHO) and an advanced committee (Legal). The amount of prep work will vary based on the committee you choose. Be ready to tell your club which committee you would like to represent.
3 - Position
Now make sure you have an official assignment from your advisor. This means you will represent one country in one committee. We do not allow partner delegates at ALTMUN. Each delegate must be the sole representative of their nation within their assigned committees.
4 - Register as a Delegate
So if you have a country and committee assignment, now you need to officially become a delegate. Please take a moment to sit down with a parent or guardian and complete your delegate registration on MUN Manager. Your advisor should have sent a link for you to use to complete this step. This step is due by March 30th.
5 - Read the Topic Guide
Once you have been assigned a position, read through the Topic Guide of your committee. It will help you understand what will be debated at the conference. Here is the link to the 2026 MS Committees and Topics.
6 - Research Your Country
Now that you have been assigned a country and committee, use what you learned in the topic guide to start your research. Learn your country’s position on the topic. For how to get started, reference the Research Guide.
7 - Write Your Position Paper
With the research you have completed, write a position paper (pp) on your committee’s topic. Do not forget to reference our Writing Guide! All papers are due April 22nd.
8 - Write Your List of Possible Solutions (LoPS)
Now you understand the topic and your country’s position. Next write a list of possible solutions (LoPS) for the topic, that outlines a couple potential ways to address the issue. Remember to reference the Writing Guide for more details.
9 - *Only for Legal* Write Your Resolution
Now you understand the topics and your countries position. Next write a resolution (R) for each topic, that outlines a potential way to address the issue. Remember to reference the Writing Guide for more details. All papers are due April 22nd.
10 - Document Upload
All documents must be uploaded by April 22nd. Each delegate should upload one PositionPaper (PP) and one LoPS. Delegates in the Legal committee will upload one PP and one Resolution (R). Your advisor should have communicated how to upload your papers to MUN Manager. Either you will send your documents to your advisor and they will upload them for they will share a link for you to upload them yourself.
11 - Conference Fees
There is a $25 delegation fee per country and a $50 delegate fee per student. Lunch is not included in this price, delegates may bring their own lunch if they prefer or they can visit local restaurants with their advisors. The payment deadline is April 10th.
12 - Print Your Prep Work!
It is really helpful to have the papers you work printed out and infront of you at the conference. Make sure you remember to print your Position Paper, and LoPS, (OR Resolution for the advanced committee Legal) and bring them with you to the conference!
EXTRA TIPS

Create a Research Binder
We suggest printing out the research you find and collecting it in a binder. This will be a resource to you, not only in the writing process but for reference in committee as well. We also suggest adding a printed copy of the your own papers and the docket to your binder.
Practice Parli Pro
Parliamentary Procedure is the set of rules that provide structure during debate. Take some time to review our Parli Pro Guide. If possible, organize mock debates in your clubs to practice these skills!
Don't forget WBA
The dress code at ALTMUN is Western Business Attire (WBA). The following garments fall outside of WBA and should NOT be worn: strapless, spaghetti strap, or deep cut shirts, jeans, gym shoes, shorts, mini skirts or mini dresses. WBA for guys is typically at least slacks, a button down and a sports coat. WBA for girls can be less clear, so take a look at the guide below.
