STEPS

Hit the ground running! Start recruiting for your club as soon as you can. The first steps of registration occur quickly in the fall. Make sure your students know to look over the Committee page and view this year’s topics. Students should start familiarizing themselves with this page and be ready to pick their committees!

To make an informed decision be sure to read through the topics that were selected for each committee. Use the button below to navigate to our committee page where you can read all the topic blurbs. Be ready to tell your club advisor which committee and country you would like to represent by early September. Depending on your school’s size you might not get your first pick so be ready to share a list of preferences.

In order to register for countries and committees, you will need to create a MUN manager login (or if you already have an account, merely sign in!). To create an account visit the MUN Manager site select “Register an Institution”. Once you have created an account, you can sign in and begin preparing for registration.

In order to register for ALTMUN on Wednesday August 19th, advisors will need to go onto MUN manager and ensure you are ‘attending’ the conference. To do this, simply go on the MUN manager homepage and look for the menu stating “Attend Conference” on the left of your screen. From there you will be able to click on the “Register” button and begin registration. The “Attend Conference” button opens August 19.

Our delegate registration step is now more important than ever. For the next few years we will be remaining at the Chattanoogan Hotel, even though the interest in our conference has outgrown the space. As a new nonprofit, we need to take time to build up corporate sponsors, grants and sustained donations. We will reevaluate a venue move once we have the funds to support that choice. For now, the ALTMUN High School conference has to proceed with a limit on our total number of delegates.

This year we have separated committee selections from the country registration process. Advisors will only be able to claim a spot within our capped committees with already registered delegates. Thus, delegate registration should be done as quickly as possible. Delegates will not select their country/committee position in this step. If your delegates wait to register, you will not be able to claim a spot for them on MUN Manager.  Once the committees are filled, any remaining delegates registering will unfortunately not be able to secure a spot at this year’s conference. Under the ‘Your Delegates’ tab of MUN Manager, select ‘Get Registration Link‘ and distribute it so that delegates can register themselves alongside a parent.

The Security Council is an advanced committee at ALTMUN 2026. Advanced committees are only open to delegates who have attended ALTMUN HS at least once before. This specialized committee has 5 permanent members (France, China, UK, USA and Russia) and 10 that rotate, visit the UN’s website see the countries for 2026. If your delegates would like seats in the SecCo committee, you must submit a request for one or more of these 15 countries. Submit your request in this form by the deadline of Saturday Sep. 5th. To learn more about how we assign these countries please preview the form at the second link below. Country Assignments will be distributed by Sep. 9th. SecCo delegates are NOT required to stay at the hotel.

The International Court of Justice is an advanced ALTMUN committee that aims to focus on the pressing international legal disputes between member states. Advanced committees are only open to delegates who have attended ALTMUN HS at least once before. Rather than representing countries, ICJ delegates represent judges, who operate in the same fashion as in real life; giving their expert opinions on contentious legal issues and the geopolitical stability of the globe. The ICJ will navigate through the dispute between member states to apply international law in the world’s highest court. Registration for ICJ operates in the same fashion as SecCo with the same deadline of Saturday Sep. 5th. Schools should submit requests to represent judges through this form. Assignments will be distributed by Sep. 9th. To learn more about how we assign these judges please preview the form at the second link below.

Delegation (country) requests will open on Wednesday, September 9th at 6pm est. This page will allow you to select the countries your school would like to represent at the conference. This process offers automatic assignment in a first come first serve process. It is helpful to already have a list of 10 countries your delegates would like to represent, this way you have a back up plan in case your top picks are taken by other schools. If you are the first to request a country, it will automatically be added to your school under the “delegates and delegations” tab in MUN Manager. Delegations have 10 standard delegates spots with some offering up to 11 if it is a SecCo Country, so keep in mind that you may need more than one delegation. We encourage you to fill all available seats in each delegation. (Note that we do not allow partners to represent the same country/committee seat.)

Now that your school has received countries, your next step is to get your delegates assigned to the committees they will represent. As part of our new system, you will only be able to officially claim a delegate seat if you can tie it to the name of a registered delegate. It is very important for your students to get themselves registered on MUN Manager in a timely manner so you can assign their position and claim their spot. Committee sizes are limited to the availability of our venue, and therefore each committee has a delegate cap. If a delegate waits too long to get registered with the conference they might miss out on the chance to be in the committee of their choice, or participating in the conference at all, should the committees fill up before they complete the step.

Only advisors can assign the country and committee spots on MUN Manager, there is no longer a way for delegates to select their own position.

The next step for your delegates is to read the Topic Guide for their assigned committee. Our Chairs work hard preparing these documents and they are imperative for a delegate’s success. Students should start researching the topics and their assigned country’s position. With this research they will write one Position Papers (pp) and Resolutions (reso) for each topic. We have several guides to this process that your students should reference, which they can find on the HS Delegate Guide, aslo linked below.

Delegates must turn in their Position Papers and Resolutions to be eligible for awards. Delegations are only eligible if every delegate in in that country also turns in their documents.

We are extremely excited to be back at The Chattanoogan Hotel. We have reserved a block of rooms with a fixed rate of $169 per night, and they are available now. The deadline to book is currently Tuesday, September 29th. Schools are responsible for making their own arrangements through this link. Or call the hotel directly at (423) 756-3400 and provide the front desk the arrival date and group name – 10.30.26 and High School ALTMUN Conference or group code- GALTMU. While staying at the hotel is not required, it is highly recommended! Staying at the hotel offers a unique delegate experience through our after hour offerings. In the evening of Friday, Oct. 30th, we offer a pre-conference mock debate which helps students warm up their parli pro early in a casual environment. While staying at the hotel, not only will the students be living immersed in our MUN bubble, but they will be able to collaborate with their peers through our conference supervised working room. Last year we had over 50 delegates spending their evening hours together working on joint resolutions they presented the following day. Another after hours activity is our lively delegate social, from trivia to karaoke to board games and more, any delegate can find a place to have fun and connect with new friends.

Our fees will remain the same as last year, at $65 per country and $130 per delegate. The payment deadline Wednesday, October 7th. Our preferred method of payment is via check in the mail. However we can also take a credit card over the phone.  Please view the payment guide for insturctions.  If you have a student in need of a financial scholarship please fill out the application by Oct 5th.

We suggest you set an early internal deadline for your students. Some clubs even have a peer review stage. It is the responsibility of the club and the advisor to ensure there is no inappropriate content in these documents such as profanity, unnecessary foreign language or hate speech. Documents are to be uploaded to MUN Manager by Monday, October 21st. Each student should have four documents total, one pp and one reso for EACH topic all saved separately. To upload these documents on MUN manager, advisors will have similar options to the delegate registration. Advisors can either manually upload documents, or they can send out a link to their students to individually upload.

Wow we are almost done! The last task to do as an advisor is to submit your Advisor Form, also linked below. This form is where you will tell us who you are bringing as advisors or chaperones. That way we will know who’s coming and have name tags ready for them! This tasks is dues by Oct. 10th.

EXTRA TIPS

In order to be eligible for awards, a delegate must submit their four documents, two position papers and two resolutions. Get familiar with our award structure by clicking the button below.

We recommend you select motivated and passionate students to help run your club. This individual or team can help you with a great number of tasks including: running club group chat, collecting delegate interest data, submitting country requests, leading mock debates, teaching parli pro, reviewing delegate documents. Having a delegate be involved in the registration process can be very advantageous and help distribute the work load.

IMPORTANT! We recommend that you create a group chat for all the students in your club. Sometimes there is time sensitive information that can’t wait for your next meeting to occur. With a group chat you can more easily communicate with your students and even send polls. Head Delegates or Club Officers can help send reminders about deadlines and club meetings.

While every club is different, we recommend meeting at least twice a month. Those deadlines can sneak up, so meeting regularly helps stay on track. If you do not have club meetings, you must have some other form of communication with your delegates, like a group chat. Otherwise you will need to know their preferences and have no way of collecting them.

Parliamentary Procedure is the set of rules that provide structure during debate. Have your delegates take some time to review our Parli Pro Guide, or make your Head Delegate teach it! Club mock debates are a great way for delegates to learn parli pro and practice these skills! It can also help new students get a feel for Model UN.

Our Chairs will select a few submitted resolutions to comprise the docket. Resolutions in the docket will be the first to be debated in committee. Make sure your delegates check the docket, they could be on it! (Dockets posted by Nov. 1st)

It can take sometime for your students to turn in their fees. We recommend you start to collect fees are least 2 weeks before the Oct. 31st deadline. Most out of Chattanooga schools create a budget that includes the travel and hotel expenses as well as the conference fees. The total is then divided amongst the students and collected all at once. Advisors have expressed challenges with collecting money from students at multiple intervals. So plan ahead and do it in late September.

The dress code at ALTMUN is Western Business Attire (WBA). Make sure your delegates know what the means. The following garments fall outside of WBA and should NOT be worn: strapless, spaghetti strap, or deep cut shirts, jeans, gym shoes, shorts, mini skirts or mini dresses. WBA for men is typically at least slacks, a button down and a sports coat. WBA for women can be less clear, so to help out, here is a handy guide.

We have negotiated a fixed rate of $169 per night for either doubles or kings. If it is affordable for your club, we recommend staying in the Conference Hotel, even if you are a Chattanooga based school. While it is more work for advisors, being at the hotel provides a special experience and a sense of community amongst delegates.
